Last year I have already noticed a trend that has been spoken/foreseen for a while, the disappearance of the “point and shoot” cameras.
I commented last year about the large amount of entry level dSLR’s seen during summer. This summer is was even “worse”. More dSLR’s and more phone cameras and very little point and shoot cameras.
Entry level dSLR’s today cost around US$ 500 … a fair price for the product (half the price than 10 years ago). They are also small today, not as small as a point and shoot, but “carriable”. On the other side of the story, phone cameras are getting better and better, with all the features of the small cameras, and they’re always with you (at least as much as you carry your phone 🙂 ).
Bottom line the market has better options, better cost-benefit, than a point and shoot camera. My best example was my sister-in-law that 2 years ago got a new and fancy point and shoot and since she’s got an iPhone, the point and shoot lives in the drawer!
Question is, will there be any point and shoot next summer?
