Back from Xmas vacations and slowly starting to process the shots, before the family starts complaining “Where are the shots from the Xmas party?? This big camera of yours is useless! I prefer my iPhone, I can post it on facebook immediately (though quality sux)!!” 🙂
But the post is not about that. More and more we have portable devices. Despite the great batteries we have, power don’t last nearly as long as a transatlantic flight. In some cases, laptop batteries won’t even last the time of a flight connection.
Six to eight years ago, finding an electric outlet in an airport was impossible. Things started to evolve. In the last couple of years airports have installed “islands of outlets” that allow you some extra power while on the floor.
Boarding a Boeing 777-300 I found a USB connector beside my individual screen. Those individual screens are simply great, now with a USB on the side, that would allow me to keep my tablet charged, it’s just fantastic. Specially when the tablet main user is your 5 years old kid!!!
Well, turns out that this USB is not powered! It only works for you to see the images in your device in a slightly larger screen (not very useful, since the screen is actually smaller than the iPad’s and I don’t shoot with it). The disappointment lasted just until I found an actual outlet between the sits! OK, the flight was British Airways, so it had a British outlet, but it’s there!
Things DO evolve, slowly, but do!
